Important Kashrus Guidance for Anash and the Shluchim
In response to many inquiries received throughout the week, the Vaad Hakashrus is issuing the following guidance to help ensure that the upcoming Kinus Hashluchim weekend is conducted with the highest standards of Kashrus.
As Crown Heights welcomes shluchim from across the globe, clear information is essential so all gatherings — both official and private — remain fully compliant with halacha.
A. Official Kinus Events Held in Crown Heights
All official Kinus Hashluchim events held within the Crown Heights neighborhood — including gatherings at the Armory on Bedford Avenue — are under the supervision of the Badatz, provided the CHK logo with a mashgiach’s signature is displayed at the event.
Events held outside the neighborhood are not under our supervision, and the food served there may not necessarily follow Badatz shechitah.
B. Private Events & Kiddushim
Farbrengens, kiddushim, and Shabbos simchos are common throughout the Kinus weekend. These private settings often involve outside help, and therefore require added care.
Even when the food is technically kosher, halachic challenges may arise, such as:
Use of uncooked wine
Improper or insufficient seals (single/double seal requirements)
Cooking, reheating, or keeping food warm on Shabbos
Non-Jewish workers handling food without proper oversight
To prevent halachic issues, ongoing supervision is required whenever non-Jewish assistance is involved in food preparation, serving, or heating.
The Vaad Hakashrus thanks the community for their attentiveness and cooperation as we work together to maintain the highest level of Kashrus during these uplifting days.
